ZELQAVIRO Fire — October, postponed

The least glamorous thing in the fire drawer, and the one that decides whether the evening starts in five minutes or twenty-five.

Wood wool spun from untreated softwood and soaked in refined vegetable wax: no petroleum, no kerosene smell, nothing that carries into the food. One cube lights from a single match, burns for roughly ten minutes with a steady flame, and gets charcoal, briquettes or kindling going without a fan or a chemical shortcut. Works the same in a fire pit, a pizza oven, a chimenea or an indoor stove.

Design & Craft

  • Untreated softwood wool in refined vegetable wax — no petroleum distillates
  • Odourless and tasteless once lit; safe to use under food
  • Roughly 10 minutes of steady flame per cube — enough for charcoal or damp kindling
  • Lights from one match, in wind or damp air
  • Box of 32 cubes, sized for one lighting each

Care & Safety

Keep the box dry and away from heat. Light one cube at a time and never add a firelighter to flames that are already burning. Use outdoors, or in an appliance designed for solid fuel, and keep out of reach of children. Never use petrol, spirit or other accelerants alongside these cubes.

Questions, Answered

Will it affect the taste of the food?
No. The wax burns off completely before the charcoal is ready, and the cubes contain no petroleum distillates — the usual source of a chemical aftertaste.

How many cubes do I need?
One or two for a chimney starter or a small charcoal grill; three or four for a pizza oven or a fire pit with larger logs.

Can I use them indoors?
Yes, in a stove or fireplace designed for solid fuel and with the flue open. They are not intended for open indoor use.
